"The Blues is Real" Lyrics

The Blues Is Real. At its best, the “blues” tells stories about how pain and pleasure are joined…defeat and triumph...sadness and joy…isolation and community. The stories are honest, deeply passionate, and personally connected to our lives. That’s why we love the blues. Philosopher Eli Siegel believed that “…the deepest desire of every person is to like the world on an honest or accurate basis.” Good blues songs capture this; they help us embrace even our most painful feelings as truthful, shared expressions of life’s rocky, delicately balanced beauty. They sing to a broad sketch of emotions that gifts us the promise of survival despite all our twists and turns. This promise helps us steady the uncontrollable craziness of our constantly changing world. “The Blues is Real” CD has been crafted to capture a modern/aggressive blues/rock interpretation of the blues. The themes range from isolation/depression (in Bad Kind of Thinking) to inclusion/celebration (in Let’s Start a Party), and from the deep hurt in discovery of a lover’s adultery (in Who’s that Woman) to the belief that we can all find ways to “begin again” (in The Phoenix). The songs on this CD have been ordered so that they express an emotional journey of sorts; it is a musical journey we hope you will enjoy. Human emotions are not imaginary. To the contrary, in a real way, they shape our beliefs about who we are and how we fit in this world. These songs have been written at different points in time across different high and low emotional spaces; and some of the songs reach inside some fairly dark places. If you or someone you know is struggling emotionally – reach out for help. Help is available. For example, https:// www.mentalhealth.gov/get-help/immediate-help/ is a national internet site that can link you to local mental health services in the US and across the world. 10% of the profits from the sales of this CD will be donated to support mental health services.
